Studying… (Photo taken and uploaded via MOLOME )

Where I went off you can get back on the track by going through the support race pit lane, but you have to go through a gate. I did the same thing in 2001 and the gate was open that year. Somebody closed it this time. Next year I’ll make sure it’s open again.

3rd day of Sweden challenge - find a funny Swedish video.

I actually have two videos. But I will start with this lovely Christmas meal preparation.  :D Well everyone knows “Epic Meal time”. There is usually a lot of stuff with meat which normal person could eat for about a month. But Swedish Meal Time is something quite unusual.

Another video is from The Swedish Lad - vlogger from Sweden.

In this video Martin is in Bergen. There is also a video called Meeting eenish in Norway with a Scottish girl and an Estonian guy. I actually watched about 10 or 15 videos from his channel. He is a fun guy, he travels a lot (from the videos I can see that he has been in Estonia and Lithuania, but no Latvia there :( )

2nd day of Sweden challenge - read Swedish myth/fairytale/legend/etc.

I wanted to read something magical. Everyone knows that Scandinavian mythology is inspiring and fascinating. Mythical creatures like trolls, elves, dwarfs, nymphs, mountain spirits, forest spirits. J.R.R.Tolkien used Norse creatures, The Song of Ice and fire is based on Norse mythology. Well and everyone knows Thor! The influence of Scandinavian myths is huge.

So I read a lot of fairy tales from Herman Hofberg’s book. It is surprising that many of these tales has very unexpectedly unhappy endings. For example in “The Elves’ Dance” a young guy is witness of Elves’ ring dance. And then The Elf Queen asks him to participate and it changes his character badly!

Poor lad, he did not know what a fate awaited him who ventured to  participate in the sports of the Elves. How the dance terminated is not known, but at its conclusion the young man found himself again under the oak, and from that hour he was never again wholly himself. From being the most lively and cheerful young man in the village, he became the dullest and most melancholy, and, before the year had  gone, his days were ended.

So and the tale that I put in the photo section. Well it wasn’t as magical as other tails, but this had something very important inside it. I think that Kalevale should understand.

Speaking of Kalevale! She has finally revealed her country of challenge. AND it is ICELAND! Hopefully she will have a great month with it. :)

1st day of Sweden challenge - watch an original film from Sweden.
I was very indecisive when I tried to pick up a film, but after some time I found “Arn: The Knight Templar” or “Tempelridderen”.
Film was a great surprise for me. It felt like a very successful Hollywood production. The background music was in Hans Zimmer style, cast was great and well everything was great. That magical moment, which brings this movie higher that other regular war movies, is that Scandinavian feeling throughout it. Swedish language, beautiful scenery, that accent when they are speaking English!
I was so charmed with Arn Magnusson, that I watched also the second part til 2 AM.

Something new and something quite excitable for me is happening this month. Yes, new 30 day challenge has begun and this month I and Kalevale are exploring more about different countries. As you can see, I have chosen Sweden. It’s still mystery which country has Kalevale picked up.
Why Sweden? There are several reasons. Lets start with the most recent.
After stressful and decisive month I have finally found the place where to study for next 4 years - Intercultural communications between Latvia and Northern countries. It is very essential for me, because I love everything what is in north. :) So this means that I will learn Swedish and Norwegian. Since I love Norway so much, I have studied lot about this country and I have recently visited the capital Oslo, I don’t need anything else to prove my love to this country. However, my love for Sweden is noticeably smaller. And mainly that’s because of my lack of knowledge about it. So this is reason one - I want to learn more about this country before I study about it academically.
But it is not like I have no loving feeling towards this country. My first thought about Sweden is Rally. When I was very young, I used to play Colin Mcrae rally with my brother. And when we were playing multiplayer, I always insisted that we play Sweden track. There is no secret - I love snow, I love snowy forest, I love cars in snowy weather. So that is the first association about this country. Because of wonderful snow there. Also I’m a big fan of skiing and a lot of great skiers come from Sweden. And I have been for a day in the capital and although I didn’t see much, I loved that city so much. The people were so nice, I remember this blonde guy to whom I asked directions to Royal palace, he was talking English excellently, he smiled so sweetly and he looked great.
Ok, I actually could talk for a long time about reasons why I like Northern countries and Sweden for that reason. I just remembered that two years ago in Geography class I needed to make a presentation about one country. And I pulled out a paper which was marked as Sweden/Norway. And I had to chose a country in 5 seconds. So without much thinking I said Norway. Maybe if I had chose Sweden, that now I would need to prove myself how great is Norway. :)
Ok, I’m becoming nostalgic and I think too much!
So let the challenge begin. I will contact with my friend about today’s task and stay tuned, later this evening I will start posting new stuff!
